Every pet parent faces a hidden privacy paradox. If your dog slips out of the gate or you are boarding your cat for the weekend, a finder, railway ticket examiner, or kennel manager needs rapid proof of identity, vaccination status, and a way to reach you. Yet engraving your personal mobile number onto a brass collar tag, pasting your phone number on street posters, or forwarding unredacted PDFs of your government ID and vet bills over WhatsApp exposes your family to spam and identity theft.
At PetEYE, we engineered our platform around India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023 and a core security principle: purpose-limited, revocable disclosure. Here are the five privacy layers protecting your household inside PetEYE.
1. Phishing-Resistant Biometric Passkeys (Face ID, Touch ID & Android Biometrics)
Passwords can be phished, and waiting for an SMS OTP in a basement veterinary clinic with poor cellular reception wastes precious time. PetEYE supports industry-standard FIDO2 / WebAuthn Passkeys so you can sign in with a sub-second biometric glance or fingerprint touch:
- Open your profile and go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Passkey.
- In the left action panel titled Add New Method, tap Register New.
- Authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, Windows Hello, Android Biometrics, or a physical hardware security key.
- Your device generates a unique cryptographic key pair: the private key stays permanently locked inside your device’s hardware Secure Enclave (never transmitted to PetEYE), while only the public key is registered to your account.
- Under Your Devices on the right panel, view every registered smartphone and laptop with its Active badge and registration date, or remove an old device in one tap.
2. Zero-Phone-Exposure Recovery: Encrypted Lost Pet Chat
When a stranger scans a conventional engraved collar tag, they immediately obtain your personal mobile number. When you activate Lost Mode on a PetEYE Smart Collar Tag, anyone who taps the NFC chip or scans the QR code opens your pet’s emergency beacon in their browser and can message you immediately through Lost Pet Chat:
- Your personal mobile number stays hidden by default: Finders send text updates, landmark notes, and live location pins directly to your Owner Chat Inbox without seeing your phone number.
- Instant Ephemeral Lockdown on Reunion: The moment your pet is home and you mark them Found / Reunited, the public emergency link and active chat session are retired automatically.
3. The 90-Second Protected Owner ID Viewer for Train & Flight Clearances
When travelling with your pet in Indian Railways First AC (1A) or checking in at a domestic airline counter, transit officials require passenger identity verification alongside your pet’s vaccination and fitness certificates. Inside Pet Identity → Travel Readiness, PetEYE wraps your uploaded identity proof inside the Protected Owner ID Modal (Protected View)—an inspection-only security sandbox built with four active defenses:
| Security Layer | How It Works During Transit Inspection | Privacy Risk Eliminated |
|---|---|---|
| 90-Second Auto-Expiring Session Timer | A live countdown timer (90s) runs in the top security bar and automatically closes the document view the moment inspection ends |
Prevents an open tab on a counter screen or shared link from remaining visible indefinitely |
| Anti-Snipping & Window-Blur Shield | Detects the instant a user opens Windows Snipping Tool, macOS Screenshot utilities, or switches window focus, immediately blacking out the canvas with "Inspection Paused — Security Guard Active" | Blocks unauthorized desktop screen-snipping utilities from capturing your ID |
| PrintScreen & Clipboard Interception | Intercepts PrintScreen, Ctrl/Cmd + P, and Ctrl/Cmd + S shortcuts, blurs the document, and overwrites the system clipboard with "PetEye Protected ID - Capture Prohibited" |
Stops casual keyboard screen-grabs, browser Save-As downloads, and PDF printing |
| Transparent Touch & Right-Click Shield | Overlays an invisible interaction shield with user-select: none and disabled context menus plus a live SEC-HASH audit badge |
Prevents long-press "Save Image" on mobile browsers and drag-and-drop image extraction |
4. Granular Record Access & Time-Boxed Caretaker Roles
Different people in your pet’s life need different levels of information. A grooming salon only needs proof of Anti-Rabies vaccination and handling quirks; a weekend dog sitter needs to log meals and walks for 48 hours; your apartment RWA secretary only needs your municipal license and ARV certificate.
- 6-Switch Granular Record Access: In Records → Record Access, toggle only the exact modules a recipient needs (
Medical Records,Pet Licenses,Adoption Papers,Vet Information,Behavior Quirks,Personality Traits), set an expiration date, and tap Revoke Access anytime to invalidate the link immediately. - Auto-Expiring Pet Family Roles: In Pet Family, assign a dog walker or pet sitter the Caretaker or Viewer role with a preset expiration window (
1 Day,7 Days,30 Days, or90 Days) so access terminates automatically when their assignment ends.
5. Your Rights Under India’s DPDP Act 2023: Consent, Portability & Erasure
As a Data Principal under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act 2023, you retain complete ownership over your personal and pet health data:
- Explicit Location & Notification Toggles: Inside Settings → Privacy & Security, toggle Location Services and granular Notifications on or off at any time.
- Zero Lock-In Document Portability: Every diagnostic PDF, X-ray, and on-demand certificate in your vault can be downloaded directly to your device whenever you need it.
- Right to Erasure (Delete Account): If you ever choose to leave the platform, Settings → Privacy & Security → Delete Account lets you permanently erase your account and associated personal records.
